Intelligence from Israel and Johnson's refusal to run for a post of Prime Minister: the last night's highlights

The former Prime Minister of Great Britain, Boris Johnson, refused to put forward his candidacy for the post of Prime Minister, and The New York Times wrote that Israel provided Ukraine with intelligence to fight against Iranian drones. Here is what you may have missed from the previous night.

Johnson's refusal to run for the post of Prime Minister

Former Prime Minister of Great Britain Boris Johnson refused to put forward his candidacy for the position of leader of the Conservative Party, and therefore for the post of Prime Minister of Great Britain. According to Sky News, Johnson said that “it's just not the right time” for the premiership.

Currently, ex-Minister of Finance Rishi Sunak has the most support among British MPs — 144 supporters. 100 votes are required to participate in the elections for the post of Prime Minister.

Intelligence from Israel

Israel has provided Ukraine with intelligence useful for targeting Iranian-made drones, The New York Times reported, citing an anonymous Ukrainian official.

The Wall Street Journal also reported on October 18 that Israel is providing Ukraine with military intelligence and analysis data to help counter Iranian drones, citing informed anonymous sources.

Half a billion euros from the Netherlands

The Netherlands has announced that it will allocate 500 million euros through the European Peace Facility for military equipment to support Ukraine. Defense Minister Kajsa Ollongren noted that her country is considering the possibility of including Dutch-German mine clearance training in the EU training mission.

The death of a rescuer in Sviatohirsk

A rescuer died during demining in the liberated city of Sviatohirsk, Donetsk Oblast. The tragedy happened on the morning of October 23 — ammunition, the type of which has not yet been established, detonated.

Currently, within the framework of stabilization measures, work on surveying and demining de-occupied territories is ongoing in Donetsk Oblast.

Success of the Armed Forces in the south

The Ukrainian military in Kherson Oblast destroyed the Russian Zoopark-1 -battery radar system, the “South” command reported. Missile and artillery forces performed 130 firing missions in the south during the day.

Ukrainian forces there are holding their positions and inflicting fire damage on the enemy, trying to create conditions for a further offensive, the command says.

A call to apply the Budapest Memorandum

Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov called on the UN and the IAEA to send a monitoring mission to Ukraine due to Russian statements about the “dirty bomb”, and also stated that Ukraine demands the implementation of the fourth paragraph of the Budapest Memorandum.

This clause provides that Russia, Great Britain, and the United States must react if Ukraine becomes a victim of an act of aggression or the object of a threat of aggression with the use of nuclear weapons. In this case, these countries should seek immediate action from the UN Security Council to assist Ukraine.
