Baiba Braze, Director General at Ministry of Latvian Foreign Affairs believes the fact that Russia conducted aggression Ukraine is not the reason to change the rules. “What we have to figure out is how to bring Russia back to observing the rules it itself signed up for. It is an aggressor state that has to be brought back to International Law."
She believes a successful economy can serve as a powerful model to follow for average Russians, “Baltic states have built successful economies here. We have seen a lot of startups from young people who have created microenterprises providing services for the rest of the world, but we still want to maintain an economic relationship with Russia. “
Discussing civil rights equality, she believes it’s important to show that it’s important for all people to be able to express their views. “There are certain foreign countries that are using agents of influence such as the Orthodox church, to try to turn around the discussion around these issues, that it’s not about human rights, but some ideological conspiracy. It’s important to deconstruct those myths."
