Liberation of Lyman, Ukrainian successes in the south, new Australian sanctions against Russia: last night's highlights

The Ukrainian military liberated and took control of the city of Lyman; the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed dozens of occupiers and 16 tanks in the south; Australia expanded sanctions against Russia. Here's what you may have missed from the previous night.

Liberation of Lyman

Ukrainian troops liberated and took control of the city of Lyman in Donetsk Oblast, where they managed to surround the Russian grouping the day before. This is stated in a video message of the military, which was released on the evening of October 1 by Deputy Head of the President's Office Kyrylo Tymoshenko.

Successes of the Armed Forces in the south

Ukrainian troops destroyed 64 enemy troops, two self-propelled howitzers Msta-S, two anti-tank missile systems, 16 tanks, 11 units of armored vehicles and an ammunition dump in the south over the past day.

In addition, the Ukrainian military took one Russian armored personnel carrier as a trophy, reported Operational Command "South".

Australian sanctions against Russia

On October 2, Australia slapped financial sanctions and a ban on entry to the country on 28 Russian-appointed separatists, ministers, and senior officials. The sanctions were imposed after Russia announced the attempt to annex Ukrainian territories.

The Australian Foreign Ministry noted that among these sanctioned people there are those who violate international law to "legitimize Russia's illegal actions in Ukraine through sham referendums, disinformation and intimidation".

Grossi's planned trips to Moscow and Kyiv

International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi is expected to hold talks in Moscow and Kyiv next week on the creation of a nuclear safety zone at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant.

Ukraine's NATO membership application going to Brussels

Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Olga Stefanishyna said that Ukraine's application for NATO membership will soon be submitted to Brussels.
