Russian occupation forces carried out a massive missile attack on Ukraine – the first one in 2023. An enemy missile hit a nine—story residential building in Dnipro. On the morning of January 14, Russian occupation forces launched a missile attack on the capital, resulting in explosions. We have collected the key news for today.

Massive missile attack on January 14

On the afternoon of January 14, during an air raid, it became known about the work of Ukrainian air defense forces and the sounds of explosions in several regions. Russian occupation forces carried out a massive missile attack on Ukraine – the first one in 2023.

In particular, two missiles hit a critical infrastructure facility in the Kharkiv Oblast. In Kharkiv city, after the explosion, most areas were de-energized. There was also a hit on a critical infrastructure facility in Lviv Oblast.

Explosions were also heard in Kyiv, Odesa, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Ternopil, and Ivano-Frankivsk Oblasts.

Missile hit a high-rise building in Dnipro

During the massive Russian shelling of Ukraine on the afternoon of January 14, an enemy missile hit a nine-story residential building in Dnipro. This was reported by the Prosecutor General's Office and the head of the Regional Military Administration Valentyn Reznichenko.

As of 19:40, the number of wounded as a result of a Russian missile hitting a high-rise building in Dnipro has increased to 60, said Valentyn Reznichenko, head of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional Military Administration. He noted that 12 children are among the wounded. The rescue operation is currently underway. As of 18:20, 5 people were reported dead.

Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov reported that the whole district of the city, where the residential building was hit, is completely de-energized and disconnected from life support systems. According to him, the debris will be removed all night.

Russians hit Kryvyi Rih with missiles

On the evening of January 14, Russian troops fired missiles at the city of Kryvyi Rih, Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. As a result of the shelling, one person was killed and another was injured. This was reported by the head of the military administration of Kryvyi Rih Oleksandr Vilkul.

According to him, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down 4 Russian missiles. One of them hit the private sector near a critical infrastructure facility, resulting in damage to 6 residential buildings.

Shelling of Avdiivka

In the morning and afternoon of January 14, Russian troops conducted several massive attacks on Avdiivka, Donetsk Oblast. This was reported by the head of the Avdiivka Military-Civilian Administration Vitalii Barabash.

According to him, the Russians shelled the city with Grad multiple rocket launchers and cannon artillery. The shelling killed three people, two of them born in 1980 and 1985. Three more civilians were wounded, and they are being provided with medical aid.

Missile attack on Kyiv

On the morning of January 14, Russian occupation forces launched a missile attack on the capital, resulting in explosions.

The explosions were reported by our journalists and also by Deputy Commander of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Pavliuk.

The fragments of the missile shot down over Kyiv fell on the territory of the Pyrohiv Museum, reported Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko. There were no casualties.

In the Holosiivskyi district, as a result of a missile fragment falling on the territory of one of the enterprises, a fire broke out in a metal warehouse building in an area of 20 square meters. Window blocks in a nearby two-story building were also damaged.

In the Dniprovsky district, as a result of a missile fragment falling on an open area near the building of one of the district's enterprises, a wall was damaged over an area of approximately 25 square meters, windows were broken and communications were damaged. There was no fire at the scene.

British Prime Minister announced his intention to provide Ukraine with Challenger 2 tanks

In a telephone conversation on January 14, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak officially informed Volodymyr Zelenskyy that London plans to provide Ukraine with modern Challenger 2 battle tanks and additional artillery systems. This is stated on the website of the British government.

Sunak stressed that he and the entire British government would work intensively with international partners to quickly provide the kind of support that “will allow Ukraine to use its advantage, win the war and ensure lasting peace”.

After speaking with Sunak, Zelenskyy said that “the UK's always strong support has now become unbreakable and ready for challenges”.
