Massive missile attack, redeployment in Avdiivka, legalization of medical cannabis: February 15 highlights

Russians have launched another massive missile attack on Ukraine, using strategic aviation. In Avdiivka, Ukrainian troops are at times retreating to more favorable positions. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a law legalizing medical cannabis in Ukraine. We have collected the main news for February 15.

Massive rocket attack

On the morning of February 15, the Russian occupation forces launched another massive missile attack on Ukraine, using strategic aviation. An air raid alert continued throughout the country. The defense forces shot down 13 of the 26 missiles.

Six people were injured in the attack in Zaporizhzhya. In Lviv, three civilians were injured after an attack on critical infrastructure, and two in Khmelnytskyi. There were no casualties in Poltava, Dnipropetrovsk, Kyiv and Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts.

The situation in Avdiivka

The Third Separate Assault Brigade reported that its soldiers were urgently redeployed to reinforce Ukrainian troops in the area of Avdiivka. The enemy forces in the area where the Third Brigade is located amount to approximately seven brigades.

At the same time, Dmytro Lykhoviy, a spokesman for the Tavria troop grouping, said that Ukrainian units in the town are sometimes maneuvering to move to more favorable positions. According to him, supply and evacuation are difficult here, but a backup logistics artery has been used.

Currently, the ratio of forces in the Avdiivka area is one to seven. Some Ukrainian units are operating at 360 degrees.

Legalization of medical cannabis

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has signed a bill legalizing medical cannabis in Ukraine into law. It will come into force six months after its promulgation, in mid-July 2024.

The law on medical cannabis regulates the circulation of cannabis only in medical, industrial and scientific activities. The document simplifies the medical use of cannabis-based medicines and instructs the government to expand the list of medicines.

Portnov sued hromadske

Andriy Portnov, former deputy head of Viktor Yanukovych's administration, has filed a lawsuit against hromadske over the investigation "How Crimea was seized: exclusive recordings".

Portnov disagrees about being called a "pro-Russian figure, collaborator, traitor, and Russia's accomplice."

"Due to the fact that the information provided is untrue, humiliating the honor, dignity and business reputation of Andriy Portnov, the plaintiff filed a lawsuit to protect his rights," the statement of claim reads.

Zelenskyy is going on a visit to Germany and France

On February 16, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will visit Germany and France for talks with Chancellor Olaf Scholz and President Emmanuel Macron.

In addition, on February 17, Zelenskyy will speak on the main stage of the Munich Security Conference and hold a series of bilateral meetings on the sidelines.

Protest of Ukrainians

Ukrainian carriers organized a protest near the Yahodyn checkpoint on the border with Poland in Volyn Oblast.

The protesters are demanding a fair organization of border crossing by Poland and Ukraine. They also call for the active participation of the Ukrainian authorities - the government and, in particular, the Ministry of Infrastructure - to unblock customs crossings on the Polish side.
