Missile strikes on Ukrainian energy facilities; German ministers ask to triple help for Ukraine: today's highlights

On the morning of October 22, the occupiers launched a massive missile attack on Ukraine. German Foreign Affairs Minister and Defense Minister demand that the German Ministry of Finance allocates three times more money to help Ukraine. Separate units of the Russian occupying forces continue to leave the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson Oblast. We collected the key news for today.

Energy facilities in various regions of Ukraine were hit by missiles

On the morning of October 22, the occupiers launched a massive missile attack on Ukraine. Air defense destroyed missiles over Chernihiv, Sumy, Kyiv, Lviv, and Chernivtsi Oblasts. The Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed 18 cruise missiles launched by Russian troops at facilities in Ukraine.

However, several missiles hit energy facilities in Rivne, Volyn, Kirovohrad, and Odesa Oblasts. Electricity and water supply have been disconnected in some settlements. 3 people were injured in Odesa Oblast.

Ukrenergo says that the scale of damage caused by the morning attack is comparable to or may exceed the consequences of the attack on October 10-12.

German Foreign Affairs and Defense Ministers demand to triple expenses on aid to Ukraine

German Foreign Affairs Minister Annalena Baerbock and Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht demand that the German Ministry of Finance allocates three times more money to help Ukraine. This is reported by Spiegel with reference to the ministerial letter.

Currently, the German budget for 2023 provides only 697 million euros for the supply of weapons to Ukraine. However, the heads of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Defense demand to allocate three times more — 2.2 billion euros.

It is the money for a special fund to help with arms. According to the ministers, only with such a budget will Germany be able to “concretely and visibly take on the responsibility expected by international partners”.

Units of the Russian Federation continue to flee from Kherson Oblast, robbing local people

Separate units of the Russian occupying forces continue to leave the temporarily occupied territory of Kherson Oblast. At the same time, cases of looting and robbery of local residents became more frequent. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces.

The number of cases of looting and illegal actions in Kherson also increased. The occupiers seize cars from the locals and try to leave the city using a ferry crossing in the area of the Antonivka Bridge.

In the temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhzhia Oblast, the units of the Russian Federation are being deployed on the premises of educational institutions. At the same time, children's education continues there.

The defense forces repelled the attacks of the occupiers in Donetsk Oblast.

On October 22, units of the Defense Forces repelled the attacks of the occupiers in the areas of the settlements of Bakhmut, Ozarianivka, and Odradivka of Donetsk Oblast. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces.

The aviation of the Defense Forces made 10 strikes during the current day. The 9 areas of concentration of weapons and military hardware, as well as the position of the enemy's anti-aircraft missile complex, were confirmed to be struck. Air defense units shot down one enemy helicopter.

Military personnel of the missile forces and artillery hit the command post, two areas of concentration of manpower, weapons, and military hardware, and one ammunition depot of the enemy.

Shelling was reported in the Belgorod region

In Russia, the shelling of the village in the Belgorod region was announced. Two people died, and another 11 were injured. Local authorities accuse the Armed Forces of Ukraine of shelling. The governor of the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation, Vyacheslav Gladkov, writes about this.

Gladkov stated that in the village “only social civil facilities were affected”: a school, a kindergarten, and private residential buildings. Also, the governor of the Belgorod region stated that a direct hit by a projectile caused a fire at one of the industrial enterprises.
