New aid to Ukraine from the USA, shelling of Ukrainian cities, and another decree of Putin: the last night’s highlights
The US Senate approved $12.4 billion in new aid to Ukraine; the Russians hit Dnipro and Mykolaiv with missiles; Putin signed a decree “recognizing the independence” of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts. Here is what you may have missed from the previous night.
New aid to Ukraine
On September 29, the US Senate approved a temporary spending bill that provides $12.4 billion in new aid to Ukraine.
According to The Washington Post, the Senate passed this interim legislation to avert a government shutdown, funding the federal government through December 16 and approving new resources to defend Ukraine against the Russian invasion.
Another decree of Putin
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decrees recognizing Kherson and Zaporizhzhia Oblasts as “independent territories” after pseudo-referendums were held there. Russian propaganda media wrote about this.
Shelling of Sumy Oblast
On September 30, the Russian occupying forces continued shelling the territory of Sumy Oblast. According to Dmytro Zhyvytskyi, the head of Sumy Regional Military Administration, as a result of the shelling, three people were wounded, and one person died of serious wounds in the hospital.
Attacks on Ukrainian cities
Russian occupation forces launched a missile attack on Dnipro late in the evening of September 29. One person died and at least 2 were injured as a result of the shelling of the city.
The Russians fired missiles at a residential area in the middle of the city. They also hit a transport company, where a heavy fire started. Later, the mayor of Dnipro, Borys Filatov, wrote that more than a hundred buses were burned as a result of the hit.
At 00:24 on September 30, the mayor of the city, Oleksandr Sienkevych, reported that the Russian occupation forces attacked Mykolaiv with kamikaze drones.
As later noted the OC “South”, three out of five Shahed-13 drones were shot down over Mykolaiv Oblast. One drone attacked an administrative building in the regional center and another attacked a critical infrastructure facility. Rescue and emergency services are currently working there. There was no information about the victims.
At 00:58 Sienkevych reported new explosions. At the same time, the Russians launched a rocket attack on a residential area in Mykolaiv. One missile hit a nine-story building, people were trapped under the rubble.
Later, Vitalii Kim wrote that the rescuers unblocked the woman, she is alive. The head of the Regional State Administration added that 8 people were injured. Currently, the lists of residents of the building are being checked on the spot.
Success of the Armed Forces in the south
On August 29, the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the southern front hit the UAV control point in Davydiv Brid, Kherson Oblast, and also twice attacked a convoy of Russian military hardware in Nova Kakhovka.
The command confirmed that on September 29, the Russian occupation forces in the south of the country lost:
- 43 soldiers;
- 4 tanks;
- 4 Msta-B and Msta-C howitzers;
- two Giatsint-S self-propelled guns;
- 2 Grad multiple rocket launcher systems;
- a 120 caliber mortar;
- 5 armored vehicles;
- one Orlan-10 unmanned reconnaissance aerial vehicle;
- two ammunition depots in Beryslav Raion.
