New liberated villages in Kherson Oblast, strikes on Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv: the last night’s highlights

In Kherson Oblast, Ukrainian troops liberated and stabilized three more settlements, while the Russian occupiers shelled Zaporizhzhia and Kharkiv at night. Here is what you may have missed from the previous night.

De-occupation of Kherson Oblast continues

Just last day, on October 5, the settlements of Novovoskresenske, Novohryhorivka, and Petropavlivka were liberated and stabilized in Kherson Oblast.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy emphasized that the movement of the Defense Forces of Ukraine continues.

Night shelling

At night, Russian troops struck Kharkiv: they hit an infrastructure facility in the Osnovianskyi district. A fire started at the place of the hit. Information about the victims and the scale of the facility's destruction is currently being clarified.

Zaporizhzhia was also hit by a missile in the morning. Infrastructure facilities became the targets; residential buildings were also destroyed. The exact number of victims is not yet known; rescuers are working on the spot.

Kazakhstan will not expel the Ukrainian ambassador

The authorities of Kazakhstan rejected Russia's demand to expel the ambassador of Ukraine because of his phrase about the murders of Russians but asked Kyiv to replace the diplomat. Astana also reprimanded Moscow for the “inappropriate tone between equal strategic partners”.

Tanks for Ukraine

Ukrainians need weapons with which they can fight to regain their territory,” the head of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, said that the European Union should supply tanks to Ukraine.

According to her, the countries that will provide Ukraine with their tanks will receive compensation from the European Peace Facility. Metsola will deliver this message to EU leaders at a summit in Prague on October 7.

Russia does not allow Ukrainians to leave for Estonia

Russia blocks the passage of citizens of Ukraine at the border with Estonia. Over the past few days, more than a thousand people, mostly Ukrainians, have gathered on the Russian side of the border.

The publication ERR, with reference to the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Estonia, writes that on October 5, Russia gathered Ukrainian refugees at the border and took them somewhere in trucks. The Police and Border Guard Board of Estonia is now trying to find out more about the fate of the Ukrainians.

United States believes that Ukraine is behind Dugina's death

The intelligence of the United States believes that blowing up the car of the daughter of the ideologue of the “Russian World”, Aleksandr Dugin, was approved by the Ukrainian authorities, writes The New York Times. However, Ukraine denies its involvement in the death of Daria Dugina.

American officials said they did not know in advance about the plan to attack Dugin. The United States did not participate, either by providing intelligence or other assistance. The US also said they would be against the killing if they were consulted.

More than 100 cases of banning and suppression of the Ukrainian language were recorded in the occupied territories. According to the language ombudsman, these facts are proven and confirmed by video and audio files.

Slovenia has legalized same-sex marriage and adoption. It became the first former communist country in Europe to approve this reform.
