New military aid to Ukraine, repeated sanctions against Yanukovych, shelling of Mykolaiv: the last night’s highlights

Countries promise new military aid to Ukraine; Zelenskyy reimposed sanctions against Yanukovych; the Russians carried out a massive shelling of Mykolaiv and attacked Kyiv Oblast. Here is what you may have missed from the previous night.

Military aid to Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron said that his country will hand over anti-aircraft missiles and radars to Ukraine in the coming weeks. According to CNN, Paris will provide Crotale short-range anti-aircraft missiles, which are used to intercept missiles and aircraft at low altitudes.

British Defenсe Minister Ben Wallace said that his country will provide Ukraine with missiles capable of shooting down cruise missiles, as well as more UAVs and 18 howitzers for the American NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems.

Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anušauskas announced that his country will provide new military aid to Ukraine. Lithuania will supply the Ukrainian troops with winter clothes, and equipment, as well as mortars, UAVs, thermal imagers, and more.

NATO will help Ukraine rebuild its military infrastructure and restore its defense industry after the war. This is provided by the long-term defense plan of the Alliance.

Repeated sanctions against Yanukovych

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reimposed sanctions against Yanukovych, oligarch Kurchenko, Russian oligarch Deripaska, and Yanukovych-era defense minister Lebediev. This decision should help to confiscate all their property on the territory of Ukraine.

Crash of a fighter jet near Vinnytsia

On the evening of October 12, a fighter jet under the control of a pilot, who shot down 5 Shahed-136 kamikaze drones that same day, and 2 cruise missiles the day before, crashed near Vinnytsia. The serviceman managed to eject, he is feeling well.

The commander of the Air Force, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk initiated a petition to award this pilot the title of Hero of Ukraine.

Resolution of the UN General Assembly

The UN General Assembly condemned the Russian pseudo-referendums and the attempt to annex the territory of Ukraine. 143 countries supported the resolution, and 35 countries abstained. At the same time, 5 countries, namely, Belarus, North Korea, Nicaragua, Syria, and Russia, voted against it.

Restoration of power supply

Energy supply was stabilized in Kyiv and central regions. The power supply for Ukrainians in these regions will not be turned off if the level of consumption in the power system does not increase. People were urged to turn off unnecessary electrical appliances in the morning and evening when electricity consumption is highest.

At the same time, emergency restrictions in Kharkiv, Sumy, and Poltava Oblasts remain. Ukrenergo explained that the latest missile attacks damaged a lot of energy equipment, which is still being restored.

Attacks on Ukrainian territory

On the night of October 13, the Russian occupying forces launched a massive shelling of Mykolaiv, and in the morning they attacked Kyiv Oblast.

The mayor of Mykolaiv Oleksandr Sienkevych wrote that the city was shelled after 01:00 am. There is a hit in a five-story residential building.

The two upper floors are completely destroyed; the rest are under the rubble. Rescuers are working on the spot,” he said in his message.

Oleksiy Kuleba, the head of the Kyiv Regional Military Administration, reported that the Russians hit one of the communities of the region. According to preliminary data, the occupiers attacked using kamikaze drones.
