New nuclear threats, strike on Zaporizhzhya and Russian mercenaries in Belarus: last night's highlights
New nuclear threats were made by Moscow, the occupiers struck again in Zaporizhzhya, and Russian mercenaries seem to be preparing provocations on the border in Belarus. Here's what you may have missed from the previous night.
New nuclear threats
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that all laws and doctrines, including the nuclear one, will apply to "new" territories, if any. He was referring to the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine, where pseudo-referendums on joining Russia are being held.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba replied that Ukraine will not succumb to statements about the possible use of nuclear weapons. He also called on all nuclear powers "to make it clear to Russia that such rhetoric puts the world at risk and will not be tolerated".
Strike on Zaporizhzhya
At night, the occupation forces attacked Zaporizhzhya. According to preliminary information, about 10 missiles struck the city, and infrastructure facilities were damaged.
Missile strikes were recorded in several districts of Zaporizhzhya and a village nearby. Currently, three wounded are known. Information about the victims is still being established. A power substation in one of the city districts was de-energized.
Ukraine convenes a meeting of the UN Security Council
Ukraine has convened an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council due to Russia's pseudo-referendums in the occupied territories. The secretariat said that the meeting will begin on September 27 at 10:00 p.m. Kyiv time.
Provocations on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border
A few days ago, mercenaries of PMC "Wagner" (League) arrived in Minsk, who may be involved in the organization of provocations on the Belarusian-Ukrainian border.
"Possible sabotage is expected near the settlements of Pinsk, Ivanovo and Kobrin. It should be noted that such sabotage plays into the hands of Moscow, which seeks to involve additional forces in this war, in particular Belarus," the National Resistance Center under the Defense Ministry stressed.
Afghanistan is no longer a US ally outside NATO
U.S. President Joe Biden has stripped Afghanistan of its status as a major non-NATO ally of the United States. This happened more than a year after the Taliban seized power in this Middle Eastern country.
This status helps countries that cannot become NATO members due to geographical location to cooperate closely with the United States in the defense sphere.
Guarantees for Russians who surrender
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy once again appealed to Russians and urged them to avoid participation in mobilization for the war against Ukraine. He says that Ukraine guarantees three things to every Russian soldier who surrenders:
- They will be treated in a civilized manner in accordance with all conventions;
- No one will know about the circumstances of their surrender, in particular no one in Russia will know that the surrender was voluntary;
- If the Russians are afraid to return to Russia and do not want to get exchanged, Ukraine will ensure it.
Ukrainian Armed Forces hit the location of the Russian Guard in Kherson

Ukrainian troops in the south destroyed 57 enemy troops and 30 pieces of equipment, as well as three enemy ammunition depots and three drones.
