New rocket attack on Zaporizhzhya, bill on designating Russia sponsor of terrorism: last night's highlights

Russian occupiers once again struck the city of Zaporizhzhya, and Zelenskyy commented on potential of talks with Russia. Here is what you may have missed from the previous night.

New rocket attack on Zaporizhzhya

At night, Russian occupation troops once again launched a rocket attack on the center of Zaporizhzhya, destroying a multi-storey residential building. The entire entry section collapsed and a fire broke out in the building. Civilians were injured.

Mining on the southern front

Russian occupation forces are mining the area on the southern front to prevent further advance of Ukrainian troops, the army command reported.

Also, the enemy is pulling up reserves in the direction of the advance of the Armed Forces of Ukraine — about 200 servicemen and up to 30 units of military equipment.

Biden discussed Ukraine with Scholz

On October 9, U.S. President Joe Biden had a phone conversation with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on the war in Ukraine.

During the talks, the leaders pledged "to provide economic and security assistance to Ukraine," condemned the attempted annexation and stated that "Russia's partial mobilization is a big mistake." Biden and Scholz also criticized Moscow's recent nuclear threats and stressed that such a step would have unprecedentedly serious consequences for Russia.

Bill on recognition of Russia as a sponsor of terrorism

The U.S. Congress introduced a bill to recognize the Russian Federation as a state sponsor of terrorism. In addition, U.S. lawmakers will consider the recognition of Russia's actions as genocide of the Ukrainian people.

New EU sanctions will affect persons from third countries

Thanks to a new package of sanctions against Russia, the European Union will be able to punish people and organizations from third countries that help Russia evade EU restrictive measures, Bloomberg writes. They can freeze assets in the European Union, as well as ban entry.

Zelenskyy on talks with Kremlin

Zelenskyy has appealed to those who want negotiations with Russia. He stressed that Moscow demonstrates that it does not want negotiations by daily terrorist attacks on civilians.
