Night drone attack, explosion in Crimea, new aid package from the US: last night’s highlights
Russians once again attacked Ukraine with Iranian kamikaze drones. An explosion occurs at the base of Russian border guards in temporarily occupied Crimea. Zelenskyy announces a new “large sanctions package” against Russia and measures in the “international plane”. The United States plans to provide Ukraine with a new military aid package. Night drones attack
Russian occupiers launched 26 Iranian Shahed-136/131 drones at night into Ukraine. The defense forces destroyed 21 of them. The drones were launched from the Bryansk region of Russia and from the eastern coast of the Sea of Azov.
The Kyiv City Military Administration said it had detected and destroyed all drones around Kyiv. Their number was not disclosed.
Seven drones were shot down over Dnipropetrovsk Oblast. But one drone made it to the target. As a result of the attack, an administrative building in Dnipro was damaged and a fire broke out, which has been extinguished. No one was injured.
In Kirovohrad Oblast, an oil depot was damaged by a drone attack. This was reported by the head of the Kirovohrad Regional Military Administration, Andrii Raikovych. The oil depot in Kropyvnytskyi was attacked by three Iranian Shahed drones. There are no injuries or casualties.
In Mykolaiv Oblast, a fire broke out in a private household in the Kutsurubsk community as a result of a drone strike. No one was injured.
An explosion occurred in the occupied Crimea
An explosion occurred at the base of Russian border guards near Simferopol in the temporarily occupied Crimea on May 2. This was reported by the Russian service of Radio Liberty.
Photos with the site of the alleged explosion were posted online. The journalists managed to determine that this is a former training base of border guards near the village of Shkilne, a few kilometers from the Simferopol airport.
Zelenskyy announces “large sanctions package”
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that Ukraine is preparing a new “large sanctions package” against Russia and measures in the “international plane”. The head of state said this during his evening video address.
According to him, Ukraine is monitoring Russia's attempts to circumvent sanctions.
“We record every such direction, work together with partners to block it. We are preparing a large sanctions package. The decisions are coming soon,” Zelenskyy emphasized.
The President also noted that May and the following months should be active for Ukraine in international politics.
US plans to announce new military aid package for Ukraine
The United States plans to provide Ukraine with a new military aid package worth $300 million. It will include Hydra-70 missiles for airplanes and helicopters. Politico writes about this with reference to US officials.
In addition to the missiles, the US will likely provide additional artillery and mortar ammunition for a counteroffensive, trucks, and heavy hardware. Lara Seligman, a correspondent for the publication, adds that the new military aid package will be announced on May 3.
