Ukraine is the only country affected by Panama Papers leaks that hasn't launched yet an official investigation into the discoveries made in offshores in the biggest leak in investigative journalism’s history. According to investment banker Makar Paseniuk, “there is nothing to investigate.” Paseniuk is Managing Director of Investment Capital Ukraine, a firm mandated with Rothschild investment Bank to assist in the transfer of President Porshenko’s Roshen stake into a trust. Paseniuk says his firm has been transparent from day one, complying with the requests of the Hromadske investigation team.

“The companies were created for the purpose of transferring the President’s stake into a blind trust, something that has been in discussion for quite some time and was announced by him in January,” says Paseniuk, adding that “last week, Rothschild’s trust officials have confirmed to Reuters inquiries that the trust agreement was signed on January 14th.”

The companies, according to Paseniuk, from the day of inception were independently managed, had no bank accounts and did not have any operating activities.

Paseniuk believes that Ukraine is a free country, and “as long as Ukrainians pay their taxes in Ukraine and the country benefits from all the entrepreneurial activity and from all the entrepreneurial talent of people that live in this country, the people should be free to do whatever they want with their money.”

Hromadske’s Nataliya Gumenyuk and Andriy Kulykov spoke to Makar Paseniuk, Managing Director of Investment Capital Ukraine live during The Sunday Show on April 10th, 2016 in Kyiv.
