Overnight air raid, Joint Forces Commander dismissed: last night's highlights

During the overnight air raid alert, air targets were spotted over Kyiv, a Shahed drone was shot down in Chernihiv Oblast, and explosions occurred in Khmelnytskyi and Zaporizhzhya; Zelenskyy fired the Joint Forces Commander. Here is what you may have missed from the previous night.

Overnight air raid

On the night of February 27, an air raid alert was declared in several northern and central regions. The Kyiv City Military Administration reported the detection of objects in the airspace over the capital and the operation of air defense.

Also, the head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak, reported on air defense operations in Brovary and Boryspil districts of Kyiv Oblast. Operational Command "North" reported three downed UAVs, at least one of which was a Shahed suicide drone.

Media and local authorities reported explosions in Khmelnytskyi and Zaporizhzhya.


Consequences of Russian shelling

A child was injured as a result of the Russian shelling of Kostyantynivka in Donetsk Oblast on February 26, said Oleksiy Roslov, head of the Kostyantynivka city military administration. According to him, the Russian military shelled Kostyantynivka at around 5:00 p.m.

Russian troops shelled four communities in Sumy Oblast during the day on February 26: Bilopilska, Hlukhivska, Novoslobidska, and Khotinska. A total of 76 mortar and artillery hits were recorded, causing destruction and one person was injured.


Dismissal of Joint Forces Commander

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy dismissed Major General Eduard Moskalyov from the post of commander of the Joint Forces.

Moskalyov had held this position since March 15, 2022. Prior to that, he headed the headquarters of the troops of Operational Command "East", and before that, the 300th Tank Training Regiment of the 169th Training Center "Desna" of the Land Forces.

"A professional patriotic person," is how the head of state described Moskalyov in March last year.


New aid from Germany

Berlin has announced that it has provided Ukraine with new military aid, which includes six Beaver armored bridgelayers, 20,000 first aid kits, 8 Zetros trucks, and 10 winter camouflage nets.
