Paul Manafort Allegedly Helped Ukrainian President Poroshenko in 2014

Paul Manafort, former campaign manager to US President Donald Trump, helped Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko during the 2014 presidential elections.

This was revealed during Manafort’s former partner Rick Gates’ cross-examination in court on August 7, according to Ukrainian journalist Natalka Pisnya, who was at the Virginia court where the trial is taking place.

Manafort is currently on trial in the U.S. for corruption, money laundering through foreign accounts, tax evasion, and unregistered work for foreign governments, namely Ukraine under fugitive ex-President Viktor Yanukovych.

According to American TV channel NBC, Gates stated that the last time he and Manafort worked in Ukraine was during the October 2014 parliamentary elections for the Opposition Bloc. They also worked for Petro Poroshenko, but were not paid in full.

Hromadske previously reported that Manafort had tried to establish a working relationship with Poroshenko. The Ukrainian Presidential Administration confirmed that they had received such proposals, but denied cooperating with Manafort.
