The press secretary for the president of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, has announced that he’s been infected with the coronavirus, reports Russian state—owned media outlet TASS.

The press secretary for the president of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, has announced that he’s been infected with the coronavirus, reports Russian state-owned media outlet TASS.

“Yes, I’m sick. I’m in treatment,” was Peskov’s curt report to a question confirming whether or not he has the disease.

According to Interfax, Peskov clarified that he is currently in hospital. Peskov is not the only high government official to be confirmed to have the coronavirus in Russia – Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin also has contracted the novel coronavirus. Peskov’s last public appearance was on April 30 during a meeting with Vladimir Putin, although the spokesman stated he hadn’t spoken with the head of state in person in over a month.

Prominent Russian ice dancer and Peskov’s wife, Tatiana Navka also confirmed her infection to Daily Storm.

Russia is currently third in the world for the number of confirmed coronavirus cases – 232,243 Russians have been diagnosed with COVID-19.
