Relatives identified bodies of some defenders who were not taken from Zenit position in Avdiivka
On the evening of February 17, Russians posted a video online showing the bodies of soldiers. Some of them were recognized by their relatives: they were Ukrainian defenders who were not evacuated from the Zenit position in Avdiivka.
The relatives of the three defenders, who were left at Zenit, told Slidstvo.info journalists about this.
The sister of Ivan Zhytnyk, call sign Django, Kateryna, recognized her brother's body by his clothes and the water bottle he was holding when the defenders were being taken out of the mine by Russians. Ivan was facetiming his family when the occupiers entered their makeshift hospital in the mine.
The journalists saw a video of the Russians showing the dead in Ukrainian Armed Forces uniforms, one of them with a bandaged head. This video was shot at the Zenit position. One of the dead has a tattoo in the shape of a cross on his arm.
Viktor Biliak, a fighter with the 110th Brigade, identified the man as Andrii Dubnytskyi (Bayraktar), a fighter with the 110th Brigade. On February 14, he stayed at the Zenit position with other wounded.
“At 10:30 p.m. I found this video, I recognized him by his tattoo. His coworker confirmed it was him. No one called me after that, nothing. Today, they asked for a DNA test of our daughter, just in case, I gave them all the documents, passport details, military ID,” said Bayraktar's wife Liudmyla.
Along with Andrii Dubnytskyi, Heorhii Pavlov with the call sign Panda was in the Russian video. He was recognized by his mother Inna. The journalists of Slidstvo.info asked the press service of the 110th separate mechanized brigade for a comment. They replied that they needed to verify the information.
“I can neither confirm nor deny it, we need to check it, verify it. The staffing list is information for official use, I do not have access to this information… I saw this video, but if it were true, the Russians would have already started a hysteria that we abandoned the wounded. These could be guys from another position, other places, other times,” they replied.
Meanwhile, the DeepState project claims that the occupiers shot all six captured Ukrainian soldiers at the Museum position (on Zenit). The soldiers in the video posted by the Russians were recognized by their brothers-in-arms. In the footage, the shot bodies are lying on the premises of Garage No. 1.
“A series of mistakes and delays in decisive action led to this tragedy. And the enemy has once again proved that it does not care about all the rules of war,” the project said.
On the afternoon of February 17, the commander of the Tavria Operational and Strategic Group of Troops, Oleksandr Tarnavskyi, said that during the withdrawal of Ukrainian units from Avdiivka, Donetsk region, some soldiers were captured by Russia. However, he did not specify whether they were wounded. According to him, Ukraine will appeal to international humanitarian organizations of other countries to ensure the humane treatment of captured defenders by Russia.
