At least 14 people have been killed and dozens wounded after a morning missile attack by Russian forces on Chernihiv, reported the State Emergency Service.

Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko said that a 25-year-old police lieutenant was among the dead. She lived in a neighboring house and was on sick leave, and sustained a fatal shrapnel wound as a result of the strike.

Law enforcement officials also reported at least three people missing after the Russian strike.

In addition to the 14 people killed, 61 people have been reported injured, including two children. Three people were rescued, but there are likely to be more people under the rubble of the partially destroyed building.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the rescue operation is still ongoing. The number of casualties may still increase.

"And this would not have happened if Ukraine had received enough air defense equipment and if the world's determination to counter Russian terror had been sufficient," Zelenskyy said.

The President called on partners to show "sufficient determination" and provide "sufficient support to reflect it."

At around 9:00 AM, the Russian military launched three missile strikes on Chernihiv. The regional administration immediately reported that there were civilians killed and many wounded. Medics are providing all necessary assistance to the victims.

Civilian and social infrastructure facilities came under attack. In particular, there was a direct hit to an 8-storey social infrastructure building. Neighboring buildings and cars were also damaged. All emergency services are working at the scene.

The air raid alert in Chernihiv and the region lasted from 8:49 to 9:28 AM. The Ukrainian Air Force warned of a missile heading towards Chernihiv.
