Russians report Ukrainian drone attack, Kyiv air defense destroys 20 targets: last night's highlights
During the overnight drone attack on Kyiv, air defense destroyed 20 air targets; Russia said that a Ukrainian drone attacked a power supply facility in Bryansk Oblast. Here's what you may have missed from the previous night.
Russian night attack on Kyiv
In the early hours of January 2, Russians attacked Kyiv with drones. Reportedly, during the air raid alert, air defense forces destroyed 20 air targets, the Kyiv City Military Administration said. Thus, the air alert lasted in the capital from 11:38 p.m on January 1 to 03:46 a.m.
Kyiv regional governor Oleksiy Kuleba said that the Russians had launched several waves of Shaheds in the region and the capital. The occupiers were aiming at critical infrastructure facilities.
In addition, during the attack there was an explosion in the Desnianskyi district of Kyiv. Deputy Head of the President's Office Kyrylo Tymoshenko noted that the drone fragments fell on the roadway. As a result, windows in a nearby building were damaged. Emergency services are working at the scene.
The Kyiv authorities added that a 19-year-old man suffered a cut wound of the foot at the site of the fall of the wreckage: he stepped on glass fragments due to carelessness. He was sent to the emergency room.
Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klychko said that as a result of the night attack on the capital, energy infrastructure facilities were damaged.
"There are emergency power cuts in the city. Accordingly, there are de-energized heat supply facilities. Water supply to the capital is carried out in normal mode," the statement reads.
Russians report attack by Ukrainian drone
The governor of Russia's Bryansk Oblast, Alexander Bogomaz, said that in the morning of January 2, "a Ukrainian drone attacked" a power supply facility in the Klimov district.
"There are no victims. All operational services are working at the site. As a result of the strike, the power supply facility was damaged, there is no electricity in the village," he wrote, but did not specify which settlement he was referring to.
Shelling of Sumy Oblast
Russian occupation troops fired 114 times on the border of Sumy Oblast on January 1. Five communities came under fire. The shelling damaged an architectural monument — the wooden church of St. Barbara. A monument, a community center and a head of village building were also damaged.
