In Ukraine, people were left without power due to adverse weather, and there are injured and dead. Meanwhile, prisoners have begun working in mines, and clocks will have to be set back to winter time again. We have collected the main news for October 28.

Adverse weather in Ukraine

In Ukraine, three people died and 10 others were injured as a result of bad weather on October 28. More than 1,800 settlements in 16 oblasts are without power. Rescuers continue to eliminate the consequences of the weather.

In Kyiv, wind gusts damaged Ukraine's largest flag, despite the fact that it had been lowered the day before to preserve its integrity. The damaged remnants of the flagpole have now been removed, and a replacement flag has been prepared. The new flag will be raised as soon as the weather conditions improve.

In Rivne Oblast, the roof of Dubno Castle, a state historical and cultural reserve, was partially damaged by the weather.

Ukraine will switch to winter time again

tn the early hours of October 29, at 4 a.m., the clock will need to be set back one hour to make it 3 a.m.

"The time in force in Ukraine in winter is natural for the territory of our country and corresponds to its geographical location. And in the period from the last Sunday of March to the last Sunday of October, daylight saving time is introduced in order to effectively use the daylight hours," the government explained.

Russia lost about 4 thousand soldiers in the area of Avdiivka

Russian occupation forces have already lost about 4,000 of their soldiers in the area of Avdiivka, Donetsk Oblast, since the beginning of active assaults, Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov said.

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the Russian Federation lost at least one brigade during its attempts to besiege and capture Avdiivka.

Prisoners start working in mines in Ukraine

In Ukraine, prisoners have been employed as miners. The Ministry of Justice is convinced that this will have a positive impact on the country's energy security.

Minister of Justice Denys Malyuska noted that prisoners-miners receive a "decent" salary, which allows them to pay compensation for damage caused by the crime, pay taxes, and fill the budget's special fund.
