Shelling of Kramatorsk, assistance to Mykolaiv from Prague: last night's highlights

Russia shelled Kramatorsk: hit a car with people, killing two; Prague municipality donated 226 diesel heaters and eight generators to Mykolaiv. Here is what you may have missed from the previous night.

Shelling of Kramatorsk

Russian troops shelled Kramatorsk, Donetsk Oblast, on January 9. According to the Deputy Head of the President's Office Kyrylo Tymoshenko, the occupiers hit the roadway and a car with people. Two people who were inside the car were killed.

Assistance to Mykolaiv from municipality of Prague

Mykolaiv received 226 diesel heaters and eight generators from the Prague municipality. Such assistance was sent at the request of the municipal enterprise "Mykolaivelectrotrans".

Investigation of judge

Ukrainian judge Yaroslav Vasylenko has visited the occupied Crimea 25 times since 2014, and his wife has two apartments in Sevastopol. The judge did not indicate in the declaration the Russian citizenship of his wife and the real estate that his family has in Moscow and Sevastopol, according to the RFE/RL's investigative project "Schemes".

  • The US Department of Defense signed a contract with L3Harris to produce 14 Vampire anti-drone systems for Ukraine;
  • Estonia plans to be the first EU country to introduce a legal plan for the seizure of Russian assets. The legal framework for confiscation will appear by the end of January, the Estonian Foreign Ministry says;
  • Washington is considering giving Ukraine Stryker armored fighting vehicles as part of a future military aid package, Politico reports;
  • Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala said that his country is preparing to transfer modernized T-72 tanks to Ukraine. He left a message for Ukrainian defenders on one of them;
  • Sweden plans to provide Ukraine with Archer self-propelled artillery systems as part of the next military aid package;
  • the Dutch media regulator granted a license for television broadcasting to the Russian TV channel "Dozhd" ("TV Rain"), after Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia suspended the broadcasting of this outlet in their countries.
