Shelling of residential building in Kharkiv Oblast, better power prospects: last night's highlights

Russians shelled a residential building in Kharkiv Oblast, and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that power engineers managed to ease the situation with electricity supply in a number of regions. Here's what you may have missed from the previous night.

Shelling of the house

On the evening of November 20, Russian occupation troops attacked the village of Shevchenkove in the Kupyansk district of Kharkiv Oblast. A residential building came under fire. There may be people under its rubble. Rescuers arrived at the scene. As of the evening there was no information about the victims.

Progress on the frontline

Heavy fighting continues in Donetsk Oblast, Ukrainian troops are gradually advancing in Luhansk Oblast, and in the south they are destroying the enemy's potential, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

"The toughest battles, as before, are in Donetsk Oblast. Although there are fewer attacks this day due to the deteriorating weather, the number of Russian attacks remains, unfortunately, extremely high," the Ukrainian leader stressed.

Situation with electricity

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that on November 20, power engineers managed to ease the situation with electricity supply in some regions where there were a lot of problems the day before.

Ukrenergo reported that over the weekend, November 19 and 20, power engineers managed to somewhat relax consumption restrictions, despite the sharp cold snap. And on November 21, scheduled outages will be in effect throughout the day in all regions of Ukraine.

Explosions near ZNPP reactors

The IAEA recorded explosions near nuclear reactors during the shelling of the occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP on November 19 and 20. Fortunately, there were no casualties, and radiation levels remained normal.

The organization says that repeated shelling of the plant site also damaged buildings, systems, and equipment. IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi called the shelling one of the most intense in recent months.

Losses of the Russian military

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has lost more than 8,000 pieces of equipment, according to Oryx analysts. The figure includes not only destroyed equipment, but also about captured, damaged, and abandoned.

Among the losses are at least 1,504 tanks, 718 armored combat vehicles, 1,748 infantry fighting vehicles, 269 armored personnel carriers, 141 howitzers, 290 self-propelled artillery units, and 154 multiple rocket launchers.


Another shelling of Sumy Oblast

On November 20, Russian occupation troops shelled three border communities of Sumy Oblast. There were 22 hits in one of the border villages of the Bilopillia community. As a result, the town hall, bakery, shop, power line, and gas pipeline were destroyed.

War-induced unemployment

As a result of the war, at least 5 million Ukrainians lost their jobs. About 7 million people have left the country because of the fighting, and hundreds of workers have been killed in action, Deputy Economy Minister Tetiana Berezhna said.

According to her, the fighting continues on the territory where 10 million people used to work. After the war, the Ukrainian government plans to return to Ukraine all those who left because of the war, the official stated.
