Shelling of Zaporizhzhya, destruction of Russians in the south, accusations from Belarus: last night's highlights

Missile strike on Zaporizhzhya results in casualties; Ukrainian Armed Forces killed over 80 Russian troops in the south; Belarus accused Ukraine of plans to strike, and Kyiv responded. Here is what you may have missed from the previous night.

Successes of the Armed Forces in the south

Ukrainian rocket and artillery units carried out more than 200 firing missions on the southern front on October 8, while Ukrainian aviation carried out 10 strikes on the occupiers.

Operational Command "South" confirmed that the Russian occupation troops suffered the following losses on the southern front on October 8:

  • 83 soldiers;
  • 4️ tanks;
  • 4️ howitzers Msta-B;
  • 2️ 120-caliber mortars;
  • 7️ units of armored vehicles.

In addition, the Ukrainian military damaged seven units of enemy equipment, in particular, a tank, two self-propelled Pion cannons, and other armored vehicles. The Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed three ammunition dumps in Kherson and Beryslav districts, as well as one control point in Kakhovka district, Kherson Oblast.

Rocket attacks on Zaporizhzhya

On the evening of October 8, Russians shelled Zaporizhzhya City once again. The occupiers hit the infrastructure facility of the regional center with a rocket, a fire broke out there.

And at night, the Russian occupation forces once again attacked the city with rockets. As a result of the hits, a high-rise building was destroyed, victims are reported.

The Secretary of Zaporizhzhya City Council Anatoliy Kurtiev said that according to preliminary data, five private houses were destroyed and about 40 buildings were damaged as a result of the night rocket attack. According to him, 17 people were killed.

Accusations of Belarus

On the evening of October 8, the Belarusian Foreign Ministry summoned the Ambassador of Ukraine in Minsk Ihor Kyzym, and he was handed a diplomatic note. In it, the Belarusian side claims that Ukraine allegedly plans to "strike" on the territory of Belarus.

The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry dismissed such information as false.

"We categorically reject the latest insinuations of the Belarusian regime. We do not rule out that the delivery of a diplomatic note may be part of Russia's plan to carry out a provocation and further accuse Ukraine," Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko wrote.

Shelling of the border regions

A 31-year-old man was killed in Chernihiv Oblast in northern Ukraine during shelling by Russian troops. His body was found by residents of the village of Moshchanka in the forest, where the deceased was picking mushrooms, reported Operational Command "North".

On October 8, Russians once again shelled Sumy Oblast with self-propelled artillery systems, mortars, and 28 unguided missiles from helicopters from the territory of Russia. One person was wounded as a result of the shelling.

Russia's attempts to "legalize" the "annexation" of ZNPP

Russia is trying to "legalize" the transfer of the seized Zaporizhzhya NPP to its ownership by establishing its own "enterprise" there. At the same time, the EU has already condemned such actions of the occupiers.
