Laureates of the Shevchenko Prize-2024
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has approved the winners of the 2024 Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine.
Singer Jamala and composer Karmella Tseppolenko became laureates in the field of music.
Dmytro Lazutkin and Yaryna Chornohuz were awarded for their achievements in literature. In the field of journalism, Yevhen Malolietka, Mstyslav Chernov, and Vasylisa Stepanenko received the award for a series of articles about the siege of Mariupol.
Russia claims drone attack
Russia has announced the downing of drones over four regions. Russian media suggest that the attack may have damaged an aircraft manufacturing plant in Taganrog. There are also reports of deaths in one of the regions.
The Ministry of Defense and local authorities in the regions accused Ukraine of the attack, while the Ukrainian government or military did not comment on the incident.
Pope Francis calls for "raising the white flag"
Pope Francis has called for negotiations in Russia's war against Ukraine, noting that "the stronger will be the one who has the courage to raise the white flag." He also pointed to Turkey as a country that could help with the negotiations.
"You are ashamed, but how many deaths will this end in? Negotiate in time, look for a country to act as a mediator. Today, for example, in the war in Ukraine, there are many willing to act as mediators," the pontiff said.
Tusk: Poland will not close the border with Ukraine
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said at a meeting with farmers that he would not close the border with Ukraine.
At the same time, Tomasz Obrzanski, head of the independent self-governing trade union of individual farmers Solidarity, said that another major protest would take place on March 20. According to him, roads in the provincial capitals and district centers will be blocked.
In addition, Polish farmers are planning to temporarily unblock the Krakivets checkpoint.
Problems with dry rations
Deputy Minister Vitaliy Polovenko conducted unscheduled inspections of warehouses in eastern and central Ukraine, receiving, as he said, "a lot of complaints about rations."
According to the deputy minister, there is a situation where some soldiers are offered only dry rations with canned food. Instead, there should be dry rations with full meals.
In general, the Ministry of Defense plans to move away from canned food in dry rations, replacing them with full meals.
