Shooting at proving ground in Russia and destruction of occupiers in south of Ukraine: the last night’s highlights

At the proving ground in the Belgorod region of the Russian Federation, there was a shooting, as a result of which the mobilized Russians were killed; the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the southern front destroyed 14 Russian invaders and their hardware. Here is what you may have missed from the previous night.

Shooting at the Russian proving ground

There was a shooting at a proving ground in the Belgorod region of Russia, as a result of which there are dead Russian mobilized soldiers. This information was confirmed by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

According to Russia's official statement, “two citizens of one of the CIS countries committed a terrorist act” at the proving ground of the Western Military District in the Belgorod region.

The Russian agency claims that 11 people died as a result of the shooting and another 15 were hospitalized with injuries of varying severity. At the same time, some resources, in particular, SOTA media write about 22 dead and 16 wounded with reference to eyewitnesses.

Success of the Armed Forces in the south

Ukrainian aviation inflicted 13 hits on Russian air defense deployment sites in Beryslav and Kakhovka Raions, as well as on the concentration of manpower and hardware of the occupiers in Mykolaiv and Bashtanka Raions.

The OC "South" confirmed that in the south, on October 15, the Russian occupying forces lost:

  • 14 soldiers;
  • 3 self-propelled artillery installations;
  • Msta-B howitzer;
  • electronic warfare station.

“Active actions” at the front

In an evening video message, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that active operations are currently underway in various areas of the front and that “a very difficult situation” remains in Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts. The most difficult, as in previous days, is in the Bakhmut direction, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine are holding their positions, Zelenskyy said.

Situation at the border

During the week from October 8 to 14, 3,000 fewer people left Ukraine across the western border than last week. However, the flow of entry fell by 26,000 at once, making the number of those leaving outnumber those entering for the second time since May, the BBC reported.

Criticism of the Hungarian government

The mayor of Budapest, Gergely Karácsony, criticized the Hungarian government and said that it is “pushing the country towards defeat”. The official also called cheap Russian gas a “huge scam”.

Increase in financial aid to Ukraine

Tensions are growing between the US and its Western allies due to Ukraine's worsening economic situation. Thus, American officials are increasingly urging the EU to increase financial aid to the war-ravaged country, writes The Washington Post.

Several times this week, during meetings of world financial leaders in Washington, US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen called on her international colleagues to speed up and increase the amount of money flowing to Ukraine.
