Slovak Defense Minister Jaroslav Nad confirmed on Twitter that the first four Zuzana howitzers are already in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
What are these howitzers?
In May, Jaroslav Nad announced that Slovakia would transfer to Ukraine eight Zuzana 2 self-propelled artillery units, which have a caliber of 155 mm.
The production of Zuzana self-propelled guns in Slovakia was established in the 1990s. The Zuzana 2 is an upgraded version of these self-propelled guns, and Slovakia began to systematically replace its old vehicles with new ones last year. The howitzer can strike at a distance of up to 40 km.
Help from Slovakia
In mid-June, Slovak Defense Minister Jaroslav Nad announced that his country had already handed Ukraine four Mi-17 helicopters, one Mi-2 helicopter, as well as ammunition for the Grad rocket launcher system.
Earlier, he also assured that his country will not only repair, but also modernize military equipment for Ukraine. The Slovak minister also said that Slovakia can transfer 11 of its MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine.
Also, according to the UN, more than 660,000 Ukrainians left Ukraine for Slovakia since the beginning of the full-scale war and as of August 10.
