At least 11 people, including 5 children, were killed as a result of Russian strikes on the Pokrovsk district of Donetsk Oblast. The Polish government has accepted the demands of its farmers protesting near the Medyka—Shehyni checkpoint and lifted the blockade. Ukraine's military intelligence reported on a special operation in Crimea. We have collected the main news for January 6.

Russians attacked Pokrovsk district

On January 6, Russian troops launched a missile attack on the Pokrovsk district of Donetsk Oblast. According to preliminary information, 11 people were killed, including five children.

A rescue operation is underway in Pokrovsk and the village of Rivne. The State Emergency Service reported that as of 22:00 it had recovered the body of a woman in Pokrovsk. They continue to search for 4 more people, including two children - boys aged 15 and 17.

In Rivne, rescuers are looking for six people, including three children: two brothers aged 7 and 9 and their three-year-old sister.

In addition, in the morning of January 6, the occupiers conducted air strikes on the village of Pivnichne in the Toretsk community of Donetsk Oblast. The shelling resulted in casualties, including a death.

Polish farmers lifted the blockade

Polish Minister of Agriculture Czeslaw Siekierski and representatives of the Deceived Village movement signed an agreement under which the Medyka-Shehyni crossing point will be finally unblocked.

The Polish official promised to meet all the demands of the farmers. In particular, this concerns subsidies for corn in the amount of 1 million zlotys ($251,000), an increase in lending by 2.5 billion zlotys ($629 million) and maintaining the agricultural tax at the level of 2023.

In the evening of January 6, the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine confirmed that Polish farmers had ended the blockade in front of the Medyka-Shehyni checkpoint.

Ukraine's Defense Intelligence comments on the special operation in Crimea

On January 4, the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine and the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted a comprehensive special operation in the temporarily occupied Crimea. The Russian forces suffered losses near the village of Hryshyne and at the airfield in Saky, Ukraine's Defense Intelligence reported.

It is noted that the targets of the attack were Russian radar positions at the airfield in Saky and an ammunition depot near the village of Hryshyne.

MP to be removed from post in parliamentary defense committee

The Verkhovna Rada has registered a draft resolution to recall MP Mariana Bezuhla from her position as Deputy Chair of the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence.

Earlier, this was requested by the Committee on National Security, Defense, and Intelligence itself. As explained by MP from the Golos party Yaroslav Zheleznyak, the decision concerns only the recall of the lawmaker from the deputy chair post at this stage.

WHO calls for a return to masks

The World Health Organization recommends resuming some quarantine measures amid rising incidence of coronavirus and other respiratory diseases.

WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus recommended that people "use masks, ventilation, and distance to reduce exposure" and make sure they are vaccinated against COVID-19 and influenza.
