Strike on headquarters of Russian Black Sea Fleet, aid package from Canada, and talks about ATACMS: highlights

On September 22, in temporarily occupied Sevastopol, the Russian Black Sea Fleet headquarters was hit. Over the next three years, Canada will provide Ukraine with over $482 million in military aid. Media reports that Joe Biden has promised Volodymyr Zelenskyy a small number of ATACMS long—range ballistic missiles. We have collected the highlights for September 22.

Strike on the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet

The Ukrainian military attacked the headquarters of the Russian Black Sea Fleet in occupied Sevastopol.

At first, Russia reported one dead soldier as a result of the strike on the headquarters. However, the Russian Defense Ministry later clarified the data, saying that the soldier was missing, not killed.

After the strike on the Black Sea Fleet headquarters building, the Russian Telegram channel Krymskiy Vetr also reported other hits. In particular, smoke was recorded near the village of Poshtove, near the Tavrida highway, etc.

New aid from Canada

Canada will allocate CAD 650 million (over USD 482 million) to Ukraine for the next three years. In particular, the funds will be used to manufacture armored vehicles.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also announced that his country would send instructors and technicians to train Ukrainian pilots on Western F-16 fighter jets.

Zelenskyy's visit to Canada

Immediately after the United States, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and First Lady Olena Zelenska traveled to Canada.

In Ottawa, the Ukrainian president met with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The leaders held talks face-to-face and in an expanded format, the Office of the President of Ukraine reported.

Zelenskyy also addressed the Canadian Parliament and met with Governor General Mary Simon and her husband, Whit Fraser, together with his wife.

ATACMS for Ukraine

NBC News, citing three U.S. officials and a congressional official, writes that President Joe Biden told Volodymyr Zelenskyy that Washington will provide Ukraine with a small number of ATACMS long-range ballistic missiles. This would be the first transfer of these missiles.

Situation at the front

The American Institute for the Study of War writes that Ukrainian armored vehicles are now behind the last line of Russian defensive fences, through which the Defense Forces are currently penetrating the western part of Zaporizhzhia region.

Analysts explain that the presence of Ukrainian armored vehicles behind the final line of the current Russian defense layer indicates that the Ukrainian Armed Forces have sufficiently secured their breakthrough of the first two lines of this layer to move the vehicles further. Ukrainian forces have likely sufficiently suppressed Russian artillery and other anti-tank systems in the area.
