Strike on Russian positions on Kinburn Spit and missile attack on Zaporizhzhya: last night's highlights
The Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked the Russian invasion forces on the Kinburn Spit and destroyed their base in southern Ukraine; Russia fired missiles at Zaporizhzhya, where an industrial facility was damaged. Here's what you may have missed from the previous night.
Strike on the invaders on the Kinburn Spit
Ukrainian missile and artillery units carried out 33 fire missions on the southern front on November 18. The Armed Forces of Ukraine struck the cluster of manpower, weapons and equipment of the occupiers on the Kinburn Spit, Operational Command "South" reported.
It was from that area that the Russian occupation forces fired at port tugs and grain barges in the Dnipro-Buh estuary. Ukrainian servicemen killed seven Russians, hit two armored vehicles, and destroyed their base.
On the east bank of Kherson Oblast, the losses of Russian troops tentatively amount to 26 Russian soldiers and two tanks near Oleshky.
Missile strike on Zaporizhzhya
On the evening of November 18, Russian occupation forces launched a missile attack on the city of Zaporizhzhya. Five hits were recorded at an infrastructure facility, which resulted in a fire, said the acting mayor of Zaporizhzhya Anatoliy Kurtev.
He added that due to the attack half of one of the city districts was left without heating. Civilian buildings were also damaged as a result of the strikes. The scale of damage is currently being established.
The first train to Kherson
"Dear passengers, the long-awaited first haul of the 'Train to Victory' is departing for Kherson. Please take your seats in the cars. Congratulations on purchasing tickets to victory," the announcer said.
The first train to Kherson since the beginning of the full-scale war departed from Kyiv railway station at 10:14 p.m. on November 18.
The train was accompanied by musician Oleh Skrypka. He and his band performed the songs "My hometown, the city of Kherson", "Oh, there is a red viburnum in the meadow" and others for the passengers and conductors.
Other important news:
- residents of Kherson Oblast were subjected to more brutal methods of torture than residents of those regions that were previously under temporary occupation. A torture chamber was found in Kherson Oblast, where Russians arranged cells for teenagers, said Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets;
- total power outage is not expected in Ukraine despite Russia's attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure. Blackout in the capital is possible, but it will not last too long if it happens, energy company DTEK reported;
- President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that "ultra-fierce" fighting continues in Donetsk Oblast. In just one day on November 17, Ukrainian soldiers repelled about 100 Russian attacks in the Donbas.
