Strike on Russian ship, Ukrainian Armed Forces' transition to contracts: highlights for November 5

A strike on a Russian ship
The Air Force and Navy of the Ukrainian Armed Forces confirmed that Ukrainian troops had hit one of the most modern ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, a Kalibr cruise missile carrier. The Askold ship has not even had time to take part in the fighting yet.
The satellite recorded the damage to the shipyard in Kerch and the damage to the Russian ship.
Zelenskyy on the attack on the 128th Brigade
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on the Russian attack on the 128th Separate Mountain Assault Brigade of Zakarpattya Oblast. He emphasized the importance of investigating the tragedy and said it could have been avoided.
The head of state said that criminal proceedings had been registered over the tragedy, and the investigation was ongoing.
A policeman pushed a soldier
A video was posted online showing a man in a police uniform pushing a soldier, presumably a serviceman. A post on one of the Telegram channels claimed that the soldier in the video was seriously injured during an assault on the front line.
The police say that "a conflict occurred" between the men, and an internal investigation is underway. Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets also said he would keep the situation under control.
Ukrainian Armed Forces to switch to contracting
Ukraine's Defense Minister Rustem Umerov signed an order approving the Concept of Military Personnel Policy. By 2028, the Armed Forces of Ukraine will switch to contract service, and conscript service will be replaced by intensive training for citizens of military age.
"The main emphasis of the concept is to guarantee the satisfaction of the Armed Forces' manpower needs during a full-scale war, integration into the Euro-Atlantic security space, and interoperability of the Armed Forces with the armed forces of NATO member states," the defense ministry said.
A soldier whose family was killed by Russia in Odesa has died
Ukrainian serviceman Yury Glodan, whose family (three-month-old daughter, wife, and mother-in-law) was killed by Russian occupation forces in Odesa in April 2022, has died.
After the death of his family, he joined the Defense Forces. He served in the Azov Brigade and then in the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade.
