✅ Four Years of Drama: Outgoing Interview With IMF Head in Ukraine

The International Monetary Fund is a huge player in Ukraine's reforms. The Ukrainian government has taken tough measures to receive the IMF's help, but progress in structural reforms has been mixed. The key issues were macroeconomic stabilisation, stopping inflation, reforming the National Bank of Ukraine, including the nationalisation of one of the biggest banks. Jerome Vacher has been running the IMF Resident Representative office here in Kyiv for 4 years and is about to leave his position this month. Watch his outgoing interview with Hromadske.

✅ Another Russian Soldier Captured in Eastern Ukraine

A low intensity conflict –this is how we can describe the current state of the Russian-Ukrainian War in Donbas. There is lot of evidence of Russian support for the separatists and data about Russian soldiers fighting in the East. Generally, Russia has been alternating between sending forces to participate in active fighting and coordinating separatist troops when there's no direct action. This week the Ukrainian military detained a Russian soldier named Viktor Ageev, a member of the “4th separate motorized brigade of the People’s Militia of the Luhansk People’s Republic." We have prepared a report on what you need to know.

✅ Macron's Plan for Russia and Ukraine

The new French President Emmanuel Macron has stepped in as an active leader in French-German tandem communication with Russia and Ukraine in the Normandy format. He has also been openly critical of Russian policy towards Ukraine. This week President Macron met with Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko ahead of the G20 summit on 7-8 July. We talked to Marie Mendras– one of the key French experts on Russia and Eastern Europe and a professor at Science Po University’s School of International Affairs in Paris– about President Macron's policy towards Russia and Ukraine.

This was the topic of a discussion Hromadske recorded with Peter Wagner, Head of the Ukraine Support Group to the European Commission, Khatia Dekanoidze, the Head of Ukrainian National Police from 2015–2016 and moderator Hlib Vyshlinskiy, Executive Director, Centre for Economic Strategy.
