One year on and no one has been convicted for killing anti-government protesters in broad daylight on Kyiv's Maidan Square. However, efforts to decipher events that day are ongoing, said Markiyan Halabala, an attorney for three of the anti-government protesters killed during the shooting on Feb. 20, 2014.
Halabala told Hromadske that as yet, the only people in custody for the shootings are low-level policemen, thought to have been acting on orders from their superiors. He said he felt that mid-level officers in the Ministry of Internal Affairs did not want to investigate the shootings but expressed confidence that the special unit set up to investigate the shootings will follow procedure properly.
Hromadske International's Nataliya Gumenyuk and guest host Gulliver Cragg spoke with Markiyan Halabala on Feb. 22, 2015.
