Ukraine is no longer responsible for transporting gas through Russian-occupied territories

Ukraine is no longer responsible for transporting gas through Russian-occupied territories. This refers to 1/3 of the total volume of gas transit to Europe. Russian Gazprom was already offered an option on how to fulfill its obligations to European partners, says Naftogaz of Ukraine.

Naftogaz CEO, Yuriy Vitrenko said that Russia's Gazprom had already been duly informed that Ukraine is no longer responsible for the gas transit through the Russian-occupied territories because it could not guarantee transport safety.

This refers to the gas transmission through the GMS Sokhranivka and the border compressor station (CS) Novopskov, which are located in the territory occupied by Russian troops. Currently, it is approximately 1/3 of the total gas transit volume.

The territory, where the border compressor station Novopskov is located, which is right behind the Sokhranivka entrance point, is temporarily controlled by Russian troops. Representatives of the occupation authorities deprived the Ukrainian transmission system operator of control and the possibility of communication with the CS Novopskov.

Russian Gazprom was offered to transfer the relevant transit volumes to Sudzha physical interconnection point, which is located in the territory controlled by Ukraine. The transfer of the transit flow does not require any extra costs or technical efforts from the Russian side.
