Slovakia can provide Ukraine with MiG-29 fighters and tanks. At the same time, the details of such assistance are currently not disclosed, said the Prime Minister of Slovakia Eduard Heger on the TV channel CT24.
He explained that his country is currently asking the Czech Republic to protect its airspace until it receives the ordered F-16 fighter jets. In turn, the Prime Minister of the Czech Republic, Petr Fiala, who also took part in the broadcast, confirmed that his country is ready to help Slovakia in this.
Heger estimated that Slovakia would need the help of Czech fighters for about a year. At the same time, he admitted that this is related to Slovakia handing over its MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine. He also mentioned the possibility of Ukraine receiving tanks.
"But I don't want to talk about it in detail, because Ukraine also asked us not to mention this equipment," he added.
Czech Prime Minister Fiala stressed that Ukraine "must get weapons to fight for its independence, our security and our freedom... They are fighting for us." And he stated that, if necessary, the Czech Republic is ready to take part in the training of the Ukrainian military.
Help from Slovakia
In mid-June, Slovak Defense Minister Jaroslav Nad' announced that his country had already handed Ukraine four Mi-17 helicopters, one Mi-2 helicopter, as well as ammunition for the Grad rocket launcher system. Earlier, he also assured that his country will not only repair, but also modernize military equipment for Ukraine.
According to the UN, since the start of the full-scale war and as of June 14, more than 500,000 forcibly displaced people have left Ukraine for Slovakia.
