Ukraine returned from Russian captivity 4 civilians and the body of one killed service member — Ukrainian intelligence

On June 18, the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War held another exchange with Russia according to the "5 for 5" formula returning back home four citizens of Ukraine and the body of one killed service member, reports Defence Intelligence of Ukraine.

Four people are civilians and were taken prisoners by Russian forces during the fighting in Kyiv Oblast. Three of them were captured during the occupation of Hostomel. Ukraine also managed to return the body of one of the killed Ukrainian service member.

Procedure for the exchange of prisoners of war

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine proposes to amend the Criminal Code on the procedure for the exchange of prisoners of war who were sentenced in Ukraine. The relevant bill №7436 was registered on June 6.

The bill proposes to close criminal proceedings and exempt from criminal punishment Russian service members if a decision for their exchange is made. If the exchange did not take place - the court would transfer the convicts to serve their sentences.

If the service members are detained again after the exchange during the fighting in Ukraine, they will be sent to serve the entire sentence without the possibility of exchange.

The document has now been sent to the relevant committee. After the committee's approval, the bill should be submitted to parliament.
