Vox Ukraine, a collective of policy experts, wrote an open letter in reaction to Minister Abromavicius’ resignation. “We decided to write a letter that we are not satisfied with what is happening. It was a very bright sign that the situation in the country is bad,” says Olena Shkarpova, Vox Ukraine Editor & Project Leader.
Shkarpova supports Ambromavicius and believes that his work as a Minister is crucial in fighting corruption: “He has changed the procurement system, launched the ProZorro system; he started so many initiatives in the state companies which is really important.”
Vox Ukraine uses its ‘Index for Monitoring Reforms to bi-weekly evaluate the success of Ukrainian reforms: “It appeared that the reforms are made but not to the extent that they should be made,” says Shkarpova.
Shkarpova blames the Prime Minister and President for what is happening: “They have to take responsibility as politicians as leaders of this country to make certain steps to fight the corruption. We cannot wait; we have to start something now”.
Hromadske’s Ian Bateson and a guest co-host Tanya Lokot spoke to Olena Shkarpova, Vox Ukraine Editor & Project Leader during the live broadcast of The Sunday Show on February 7th, 2016 in Kyiv.
