Ukraine's EU Deal Must Go On – Dutch MP

Dutch MP, Han Ten Broeke understands the very many frustrations with EU politics, namely the refugee, financial and European crises. However, “This treaty is not about Europe, this treaty is about the external borders of Europe with Ukraine,” he says when speaking about the Ukraine’s association agreement with the European Union, a topic which was questioned by Dutch citizens in a referendum on April 6th, 2016.
Broeke supports the agreement but acknowledges that the Netherlands will have to reconsider the law that has been binding them to this treaty, because the majority of Dutch citizens voted against it.
Broeke is in favor of maintaining good relations with Russia, despite admitting that the country is meddling in Ukraine: “We have made a deal, it’s a treaty. Ukraine’s sovereignty should be respected,” adding that it is a “treaty that will spur trade for entrepreneurs, first and foremost, and it will give us more stability.”
