Ukrainian Parliament Unblocks Euromaidan Investigation

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has voted for passing the bill to amendthe work of the State Bureau of Investigations. In that way, the investigation process of the crimes committed during the Euromaidan protests hasnow been unblocked.

250 Ukrainian MPs voted for the adoption of these changes. Among them, 224 are members of Servant of the People. None of the European Solidarity or Batkivshchyna members supported the bill.

This follows Prosecutor General’s Office's (PGO) loss of competence to investigate the Euromaidan case on November 20.

All the materials regarding Euromaidan, where 97 Ukrainians died due to escalated violence at the protests, were transferred to the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI), which lacked the resources to take on the task.

For this reason, the Euromaidan crimes weren't investigated for 12 days, and the lawyer to the families of those killed, Yevhenia Zakrevska, announced a hunger strike.
