The Armed Forces in the south destroyed more than 200 Russians and six ammunition depots; the Russians continue shelling Sumy Oblast; The US discussed with Ukraine its options before intensifying the counteroffensive in Kherson Oblast, writes CNN. We collected the main news for the night of September 1.

Armed Forces’ success in the south

On August 31, Ukrainian aviation carried out 24 strikes on the places of concentration of the occupiers, their forces and means, and command and support posts, as reported by OC South.

The command confirmed that on the southern front, as a result of strikes by the Ukrainian military, the occupiers lost:

  • 201 soldiers;
  • 12 T-72 tanks;
  • 18 armored vehicles;
  • a Solntsepek heavy flamethrower system;
  • a Buk-M3 anti-aircraft missile complex;
  • 5 Msta-B howitzers;
  • an Akatsia self-propelled howitzer;
  • 2 self-propelled artillery installations;
  • 3 mobile mortars.

Proposals regarding the women's military registration

The Ministry of Defense has developed and submitted to the Verkhovna Rada proposals for amendments to the Law “On Military Duty and Military Service” regarding the voluntary military registration of women, says Deputy Minister of Defense Hanna Maliar.

She notes that if the legislators approve the changes, the General Staff will develop amendments to the list of military accounting specialties for women and reduce the list according to the optimal need.

Probable destruction of an archaeological site

In temporarily occupied Mariupol, the occupiers plan to destroy the Did kurgan, one of the main archaeological sites of the city. The Russians want to do it for development, says Petro Andriushchenko, adviser to the Mayor of Mariupol.

“The Russians are planning to develop a place where kurgan is located, which will destroy it. This is another crime against humanity committed by Russia. This is how the History of Ukraine is demolished. This is how the history of the world is destroyed,” wrote the Mayor's advisor.

Support of Germany

Annalena Baerbock, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, assures that her country will continue to support Ukraine as long as necessary, even if the Germans protest because of expensive electricity.

Shelling of Sumy Oblast

On August 31, Russian troops continued to shell communities in Sumy Oblast. For instance, more than 50 mines and projectiles arrived from the Russian side, reports Dmytro Zhyvytskyi, the Head of Sumy Oblast Military Administration. There were no casualties or destruction.

Discussion of the options for Ukraine

Before intensifying Ukraine's counteroffensive in Kherson Oblast, the United States discussed it with Kyiv, in particular, and conducted “military games” — analytical exercises designed to help Ukraine determine what forces it needs to gather to succeed under various scenarios.

CNN writes about this with reference to numerous Western and Ukrainian sources.
