Ukrainian team won a record number of gold medals at the Deaflympics. The sports event will last till May 15

In six competitive days, the Ukrainian team has already won 31 gold medals at the Deaflympics 2021. This is a record amount of gold for our team, reports the National Paralympic Committee of Ukraine

The Deaflympics are a high-level sports event at which Deaf athletes compete at an elite level. Competitions from 2021 have been postponed to 2022 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

On the sixth day of the event, Ukrainian athletes won 2 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze medals in swimming.

The Ukrainian team already has 64 medals: 31 gold, 15 silver, and 18 bronze. This is a record amount of gold for Ukraine for the entire time of participation in the Summer Deaflympics. In the last three Summer Deaflympics, Ukraine took 2nd place in the medal standings. The last time Ukraine was ranked first in Deaflympics was in 2005.

Currently, Ukraine continues to take first place in the medal standings.

The top five teams also include:

• USA: 29 medals, including 12 gold;
• Japan: 21 medals, including 9 gold;
• Iran: 22 medals, including 8 gold;
• France: 9 medals, including 4 gold.
