US allocates new aid package, Kyiv says goodbye to Juice, patrol policeman shoots and kills a driver: highlights

The United States will provide Ukraine with a new military aid package worth $250 million. In Kyiv, people said goodbye to the deceased pilot Juice. Ukrainian defenders are advancing on the Tavria axis. A patrol policeman fatally wounded an aggressive driver in Dnipro. We have collected the main news for August 29.
New aid
The United States announced a new package of military aid to Ukraine worth $250 million.
In particular, Washington will provide 155-mm and 105-mm artillery ammunition, AIM-9M missiles for air defense, as well as anti-armor systems and missiles, including Javelin.
At the same time, Switzerland will provide the Ukrainian State Emergency Service with a remote-controlled demining machine.

Situation at the front
Ukrainian defenders are making progress on the Tavria axis.
In this section of the frontline, Russia lost 327 of its soldiers over the past day: 91 of them were killed and 235 were wounded. Ukrainians also took one Russian prisoner.
On the morning of August 29, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on the success of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the direction of Verbove on the Melitopol axis. Ukrainian soldiers are also advancing south of Bakhmut.
Final goodbye to pilot Juice
A funeral ceremony was held in Kyiv for Andriy Pilshchykov (call sign "Juice"), a pilot of the 40th Tactical Aviation Brigade, who died on August 25 as a result of a plane crash in Zhytomyr Oblast.
"Juice" and other pilots who died in a plane crash in Zhytomyr Oblast were presented with state awards. They were also posthumously promoted to military ranks: Majors Vyacheslav Minka and Serhiy Prokazin were promoted to lieutenant colonels, and Captain Andriy "Juice" Pilshchykov was promoted to major.
Meanwhile, law enforcement officers have begun decoding the black boxes of the L-39 trainer aircraft that crashed in Zhytomyr Oblast on August 25.
Conflict in Dnipro
In Dnipro, a patrol policeman fatally shot a driver who, according to law enforcers, ignored traffic rules and behaved aggressively after being stopped.
The State Bureau of Investigation is checking whether the use of weapons was lawful.

Temperature record
On August 28, temperature records were set in at least 10 oblasts of Ukraine.

Kropyvnytskyi - +36.6°C;

Rivne - +33.1°C;
Lviv - +33°C.
The temperature in Kyiv broke records for the entire history of observations. On August 28, weather forecasters recorded a record-breaking +35.7 degrees Celsius in the capital.
Illegal seizure of airport
Law enforcement officers uncovered a scheme to illegally seize Odesa International Airport and UAH 2.5 billion ($67.7 million) in revenue from its operations. Local businessmen, the former mayor of Odesa and his deputy were charged.
According to the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office, due to this scheme, the city completely lost all control over the airport and did not receive any profit from its activities. Instead, the people who gained control of the airport have been embezzling the income from its activities for years.
Donated blood from abroad
The government has adopted a resolution that allows donor blood and its components to be imported into Ukraine in case of urgent need only during martial law or in case of emergencies. This will help avoid a possible shortage of donor blood at critical times.
Health Minister Viktor Lyashko emphasized that this resolution is a preventive document in case of an aggravation of the situation or emergency.
Mines tripped
A car with four passengers tripped a mine on a forest road in Chernihiv Oblast. The explosion killed the driver and a woman. Two children were hospitalized.
Three residents of Kherson Oblast were also fatally injured by Russian mines.
