US threatens Belarus with sanctions, Zelenskyy asks Georgia to treat Saakashvili: last night's highlights

The United States is ready to impose new sanctions against Belarus if it provides additional assistance to Russia in the war against Ukraine, and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for the release of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili for treatment. US monitoring cooperation between Belarus and Russia in its war against Ukraine

The United States may slap additional sanctions on Belarus if it continues to cooperate with Russia in its war against Ukraine, said US State Department spokesman Ned Price. According to him, Washington is monitoring cooperation between Minsk and Moscow.

Zelenskyy calls to "show mercy" to Saakashvili

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called on the Georgian authorities to "show mercy" to Georgian ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili and transfer him to a clinic abroad.

"What is happening to Mikheil is a mockery. It does not befit Georgia. It must be stopped," Zelenskyy said.

Deputy head of Servant of the People faction resigns from the party

Servant of the People MP and deputy head of the eponymous faction Halyna Yanchenko has resigned from the party. She explained the decision by the act of the head of the Servant of the People party Olena Shulyak.

Oleh Symoroz, a military man and a member of the People's Power party, who lost two legs in Donbas and is in the Kyiv military hospital, said that Shulyak "broke into his ward to have it out with him".

They discussed the draft law No. 5655 on reforming the sphere of urban planning. Shulyak is its initiator and defended the project, stating that it will allow monitoring illegal construction.

Man suspected of spying for Russia faces life in prison

In Sweden, the prosecutor demands life imprisonment for a 40-year-old man accused of spying for Russia.

According to the prosecution, while working in the police, military intelligence and security service, he passed secret information to the Russian Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU).

The prosecutor asks to imprison his younger brother, who is also suspected of espionage, for 12 years.
