Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson arrived in Ukraine on an unexpected visit. As a result of the Russian shelling of Kharkiv Oblast on January 22, a woman was killed and a man was wounded. The General Staff says that the main efforts of the Russian troops are focused on conducting an offensive in the Bakhmut direction. We have collected the key news for today.

Situation at the frontline

During the day on January 22, the aviation of the Defense Forces carried out three strikes on the areas of concentration of Russian troops. Ukrainian rocket launchers and artillery hit two occupiers' concentration areas and two ammunition depots. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

At the same time, during the day, the Russians conducted 5 air strikes on the positions of the Defense Forces and one missile strike on critical infrastructure in Zaporizhzhia Oblast. In addition, the occupiers fired more than 20 times from multiple launch rocket systems.

The General Staff says that the main efforts of the Russian troops are focused on conducting an offensive in the Bakhmut direction. They are also conducting unsuccessful offensives at the Zaporizhzhia, Avdiivka, and Lyman directions. The occupiers are on the defensive at the Kupiansk, Novopavlivka, and Kherson directions.

Shelling in Kharkiv Oblast

As a result of the Russian shelling of Kharkiv Oblast on January 22, a 67-year-old woman was killed and a 49-year-old man was wounded. This was reported by the head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, Oleh Syniehubov.

According to him, a resident of Petrivka village of the Zolochiv community died as a result of shelling at about 14:30. The occupiers hit outbuildings and a residential building.

And in Vovchansk, Russians hit a five-story building and a private house with a multiple rocket launcher system. A man was wounded. He was hospitalized in moderate condition.

Johnson arrives in Ukraine on a visit

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson arrived in Ukraine on an unexpected visit, The Telegraph reports. He explained that he came at the invitation of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

In the morning, the British former prime minister visited Borodianka and Bucha in Kyiv Oblast. Videos posted on social media show Johnson visiting a church in Bucha, accompanied by police officers.

Later, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Boris Johnson. This is reported on the website of the President of Ukraine and in the article of The Guardian with reference to PA Media.

Johnson emphasized that the only way to “end this war is for Ukraine to win”.

This is the time to redouble [efforts] and give Ukrainians all the tools they need to end the war,” he emphasized.

Zelenskyy and Johnson also discussed the preparation of a “peace summit”.

Defense forces strike at occupants' location in Kadiivka

Ukrainian servicemen struck at a location in the temporarily occupied town of Kadiivka, Luhansk Oblast. This was reported by the Strategic Communications Directorate of the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Finland freezes assets of Russians worth €187 million

Finnish authorities have frozen the assets of Russians worth €187 million. These include real estate, shares, cars, yachts, and airplanes. This was announced by the head of the sanctions department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland, Pia Saarivaara, as quoted by the national edition of Yle.

It is noted that the country's Debt Recovery Office deals with frozen assets. In Finland, the most famous Russian oligarch on the EU sanctions list is Gennady Timchenko. According to Yle, he is one of the owners of the Helsinki Halli arena in the capital.
