Zelensky agreed with the UN Secretary-General on the parameters of a possible IAEA mission to the Zaporizhzhia NPP

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky agreed with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on the parameters of a possible IAEA mission to the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant.

This happened during a personal meeting between the President of Ukraine and the UN Secretary-General in Lviv on Thursday, the President's Office reports.

It was agreed that the possible IAEA mission must be carried out in a legal manner through a territory free from occupiers.

President Zelensky informed Guterres about Russian nuclear blackmail at the Zaporizhzhia NPP, noting that this deliberate and cynical terror on the part of the aggressor could have catastrophic consequences for Ukraine and the whole world.

Zelensky emphasized that the UN should ensure the security of this strategic facility, its demilitarization, and complete liberation from Russian troops.

During the negotiations in Lviv, Zelensky thanked Guterres in particular for his role in resolving the issue of unblocking Ukrainian ports for food exports. They agreed on the continuation of "active and comprehensive" coordination with the UN in implementing the grain initiative.
Attention was also paid to the issue of the illegal and forced deportation of Ukrainian citizens to the Russian Federation, and the protection of Ukrainians illegally detained in Russia. The President emphasized the importance of UN assistance in releasing Ukrainian service members and medics from captivity. The President also emphasized the need to observe the norms of the Geneva Conventions regarding prisoners of war, especially in the context of Russia's detention of people in so-called filtration camps.
António Guterres reported on the work on sending the UN mission to establish the facts in Olenivka, where Russia committed a terrorist attack against Ukrainian prisoners of war.
