President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky granted Ukrainian citizenship to Russian journalist and blogger Alexander Nevzorov, State Migration Service of Ukraine told hromadkse.

Migration Service didn't provide further details but confirmed that "this a presidential decree exists."

Nevzorov himself has already commented on his Ukrainian citizenship condemning the actions of the Russian regime in Ukraine and calling them a crime.

"I am on the side of the victim. And I am terribly grateful to those exhausted, desperate, bloodied people of Ukraine who allowed me to take my place among them," wrote Nevzorov.

Who is Nevzorov?

Nevzorov became famous after the collapse of the Soviet Union due to his journalistic activities. In particular, he reported during armed confrontations in "Transnistria," Chechnya, and Yugoslavia.

Nevzorov also justified the actions of Soviet security forces during the suppression of protests in the Baltic countries, although he later said he had changed his mind.

From 1993 to 2007, he was a member of the Russian State Duma, and in 2012 he was a confidant of Vladimir Putin. The blogger called Putin "the only one who can keep from the catastrophe the collapsing empire."

In recent years, Nevzorov started criticizing the actions of the Russian authorities and declaring his support for Ukraine. Finally, in April 2022, Nevzorov was declared a "foreign agent" in Russia, and in May, he was declared wanted. He was accused of allegedly spreading false information about the actions of the Russian military in Mariupol.
