Zelenskyy appoints General Zaluzhnyi as Ukraine's ambassador to Britain

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has approved the candidacy of former Commander—in—Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi for the post of Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom, reported the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
Now the British government must agree to accept Zaluzhnyi as the head of Ukraine's diplomatic mission. The Foreign Ministry has already sent a request to the British government.
At the same time, the Presidential Office's website does not yet have a decree appointing Zaluzhnyi.
What happened to the previous ambassador?
In July 2023, the President of Ukraine dismissed the Ambassador of Ukraine to the United Kingdom, Vadym Prystaiko, for unknown reasons.
This happened a week after Prystaiko called President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's remarks that he could thank British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace for military assistance every morning "unhealthy sarcasm."
Soon after Prystaiko's dismissal, rumors began to spread in the media that former Defense Minister Oleksii Reznikov would be appointed to replace him. MP Oleksiy Honcharenko also reported this. However, Ukrainska Pravda's sources claimed that this was unlikely.
Dismissal of Zaluzhnyi
On the evening of February 8, it emerged that Valerii Zaluzhnyi was leaving the post of Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with Zaluzhnyi, thanked him for his service and offered him "to continue to be in the team."
After the meeting, Zaluzhnyi himself said that "the tasks of 2022 are different from the tasks of 2024, so everyone must change and adapt to the new realities in order to win together."
Zelenskyy appointed Colonel General Oleksandr Syrskyi, who previously headed the Ground Forces, as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces.
Later, the President's Office published a list of what Zelenskyy expects from the Armed Forces after the leadership change. In particular, the head of state wants to see a "realistic, detailed action plan" for the Armed Forces for 2024 on the table.
