Zelenskyy introduces new state holiday, Ukrainian Embassy receives another threat: highlights of the day
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy introduced a new holiday in Ukraine, and the Embassy of Ukraine in Greece received a blood—stained package. We gathered the main news for the day.
New state holiday
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree introducing a new holiday in Ukraine — Human Rights Day. It will be celebrated annually on December 10 to "affirm and ensure human rights and freedoms, which is the main duty of the state, strengthen the consolidation of Ukrainian society."
By introducing this holiday, Ukraine supported the decision of the UN General Assembly to celebrate Human Rights Day on December 10 in honor of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
33 threats to Ukrainian diplomatic missions
The Embassy of Ukraine in Greece received a blood-stained package in the morning, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleg Nikolenko said. The package contains the sender's address: Tesla car dealership in the German town of Sindelfingen. The same address was indicated on the rest of the blood-stained packages received by Ukrainian embassies and consulates.
In total, 33 cases of threats have already been recorded in 17 countries: one attempted terrorist attack, vandalism and a written threat, as well as two reports of mining and 28 blood-stained packages. In particular, threats were received by diplomats in Austria, the Vatican, Denmark, Poland, Kazakhstan, France, Italy, the United States, etc.
Russian shelling of civilians
Russian army continued shelling Ukrainian settlements, killing civilians. In particular, the invaders carried out regular artillery strikes on Kherson and suburban settlements. It is known about at least five victims and two dead.
Russians also shelled the center of Hirnyk village in Donetsk Oblast. As a result, two civilians were killed and 10 others were injured. According to the photos, the Russians seem to have hit people at a mini-market.
Death of pyrotechnicians
In the town of Kostyantynivka, Donetsk Oblast, a group of pyrotechnicians tripped explosives during demining. Three of them were killed, two more were injured. Doctors are now fighting for the lives of two wounded.
Collection for "Black Box"
Ukrainians have raised over 230 million hryvnias ($6.23 million) for the Black Box project for the Ukrainian military intelligence. The money was collected by the "Come Back Alive" foundation and blogger Ihor Lachenkov. Part of the funds for intelligence equipment was donated by Ukrainian businesses, as well as the band "Hatespeech".
The type of equipment is not disclosed due to secrecy. The intelligence stated that thanks to this equipment there will be noticeable results on the battlefield, in particular, the offensive capability of Russian troops will be reduced.
Situation at the front
Russian invasion forces are trying to advance on the Lyman, Bakhmut, Avdiyivka and Zaporizhzhya axes. In other sectors of the frontline the enemy is trying to restrain the actions of the Defense Forces, said the General Staff of the Armed Forces. In Belarus, the Ukrainian military have not yet detected any signs of the formation of strike groups.
According to the General Staff, Russians are also calling women for mobilization to replenish losses and manning the units. In particular, 28 women have already been drafted and sent for training by the Kalinin district military commissariat of Donetsk.
Losses of the occupiers
On December 11, the Defense Forces killed 620 Russian troops, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported. The Russians also lost 24 tanks, eight armored combat vehicles, an artillery system and other equipment over the day.
In total, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Russia has lost about 94,760 of its soldiers in the war against Ukraine.
