Shelling of Mykolaiv, DPRK soldiers' escape from battlefield and evacuation from Kupiansk: highlights for October 15

Russian troops launched several missile strikes on Mykolaiv. 18 North Korean soldiers left Russian positions in the Kursk region. The authorities announced the mandatory evacuation of all civilians from Kupiansk and neighboring communities. We have collected the main news for October 15.

Shelling of Mykolaiv

On the night of October 15, Russian troops attacked Mykolaiv with S-300/S-400 missiles from the temporarily occupied Crimea. As a result, 16 people were injured and one person was killed.

The attack took place around 2:30 am. The strike damaged an infrastructure facility, a restaurant complex, trade pavilions, residential buildings, and cars.

DPRK soldiers escape from Russian positions

18 North Korean soldiers involved in the Russian army have already escaped from their positions on the border of Ukraine with the Bryansk and Kursk regions of Russia.

As noted, this happened 7 kilometers from the state border with Ukraine. The motives of the soldiers' escape from the DPRK have not yet been established. The Russian military has begun searching for them, but they are trying to hide this information from their higher command.

Evacuation from Kupiansk

The authorities of the Kharkiv region announced the forced evacuation of all civilians from Kupiansk and nearby settlements due to the deteriorating security situation.

People will be evacuated, in particular, from the settlements of Kindrashivka, Kurylivka, Petropavlivka and other villages. Syniehubov said that the security situation in the region has deteriorated, making it impossible to ensure the central heating, humanitarian aid and electricity supply for the population.

At the same time, the mandatory evacuation of families with children was announced in Borova, a town in Izium district.

Liashko is a commander of unmanned systems

Former MP Oleh Liashko has indeed become the commander of a battalion of unmanned systems in the 63rd separate mechanized brigade. The servicemen assure that during his two years of service in the brigade, Liashko proved himself to be a person who “immediately began to delve deeply” into the essence and role of unmanned systems on the battlefield, “understanding their importance”.

The drone unit of the 63rd Brigade is said to be among the 10 best units in terms of the effectiveness of destroying enemy manpower and military equipment using unmanned systems.

Private land may be taken for construction of fortifications

The Cabinet of Ministers has approved a draft law that proposes to temporarily deprive the owner of a private plot of land of the right to use it if the land is needed for the construction and maintenance of military fortifications. This may be done subject to termination of the right, redemption or expropriation of the land plot (or part thereof).

The draft law proposes to amend the Land Code of Ukraine, as well as the laws “On the Legal Regime of Martial Law” and “On the Transfer, Compulsory Alienation or Seizure of Property under the Legal Regime of Martial Law or a State of Emergency.”

Investigation in the Land Forces after reports of threats and humiliation of soldiers

Commander of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Oleksandr Pavliuk initiated an internal investigation by the Military Law Enforcement Service into the appeal of Asgard soldiers who were allegedly threatened by his advisor Oleksandr Dmitriiev.

He also emphasized that the conclusions and decisions of the investigation would be public and assured that justice would be ensured in full compliance with the law.

Aggravation between the DPRK and South Korea

North Korea has blown up sections of roads and rail lines on its side of the heavily fortified border with South Korea. This prompted the South Korean military to fire warning shots.

South Korea's Ministry of Unification, which deals with cross-border affairs, condemned the incident as a clear violation of past inter-Korean agreements, calling it “very abnormal.”
