Ukrainian volunteer Sternenko wounded in shooting attack, suspect detained

Ukrainian volunteer and blogger Serhiy Sternenko was wounded in a shooting attack on May 1, but reported no life-threatening injuries, as the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained a female suspect, the activist himself reported.
Sternenko stated on Telegram that he was attacked but is stable, with no threat to his life, and suggested possible Russian involvement in the assault.
At 1:41 p.m., he updated that the SBU had detained the female attacker, thanking the agency for its “lightning-fast reaction,” saying, “If not for them, I wouldn’t be able to write anything now.”
At 2:25 p.m., the SBU confirmed the attack involved a firearm, releasing a photo of the suspect and noting ongoing investigations.

This marks the latest assault on Sternenko, who said he survived three targeted attacks in 2018.
On February 7, 2018, assailants ambushed him near his Odesa apartment, beating him with a bat-like object, causing a thigh wound, concussion, and bruises.
On May 1, 2018, an attacker shot him in the neck with rubber bullets.
On May 24, 2018, two men, Ivan Kuznetsov and Oleksandr Isaykul, attacked him near his home. Sternenko stabbed both, fatally wounding Kuznetsov, who died at the scene, while Isaykul fled.
In the 2018 case, Sternenko maintained he acted in self-defense to protect himself and his girlfriend.
Prosecutors and victims’ representatives argued he committed intentional murder, citing his actions after the stabbings.
In 2023, Odesa’s Prymorskyi District Court closed the case, as the prosecution failed to prove Sternenko’s guilt.
