Top NABU detective arrested for suspected trade with Russia

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained Ruslan Mahamedrasulov, the head of NABU’s interregional detective units, for allegedly conducting illegal business activities with Russia, according to an SBU statement.
The SBU said Mahamedrasulov, tasked with coordinating NABU operations in Ukraine’s frontline regions, maintained contacts with Russian representatives and assisted his father’s illegal trade with Russia.
Authorities established that Mahamedrasulov acted as an intermediary in the sale of technical hemp to Russia’s Dagestan Republic for his father, Sentyabr Mahamedrasulov, a Russian citizen. The SBU noted that Mahamedrasulov failed to disclose his father’s Russian citizenship when obtaining clearance for access to state secrets, violating Ukrainian law.
Additionally, Mahamedrasulov’s mother, Iryna Mahamedrasulova, resides in Kyiv but receives a pension from the self-proclaimed “Donetsk People’s Republic” and posts pro-Russian comments on social media.
The SBU is investigating potential ties between Mahamedrasulov and Russian special services, including the possible transfer of sensitive information, such as details of planned investigative actions.
The agency also reported that Mahamedrasulov had close contact with Fedir Khrystenko, a fugitive former lawmaker from the banned Opposition Platform-For Life party, who is allegedly linked to Russian special services.
Mahamedrasulov was detained at his home, where searches were conducted.
The SBU noted that, despite his role requiring him to be based in Dnipro to oversee frontline regions, he spent most of his time in Kyiv and recently returned from a luxury vacation in Tenerife.
Authorities are preparing to formally charge Mahamedrasulov under Article 111-2 of Ukraine’s Criminal Code for aiding an aggressor state.
Previously, a hromadske source reported a large-scale SBU operation aimed at “neutralizing Russian influence” within NABU.
NABU stated that the SBU and the Prosecutor General’s Office conducted searches of its personnel, claiming these were carried out without court warrants.
